We are delighted to announce Mildred Moyo, as one of our Pop Up Small Grants Open call Winners.
Mildred is a Zimbabwean self-taught lighting designer currently on scholarship at Rose Bruford College in MA Light in Performance Course. In 2011 she founded the first female-owned lighting company in Zimbabwe called Phenomenal Lighting and Power Solutions. In 2019, the first Lighting Masterclass series was established by Mildred in Zimbabwe for young people, focusing on disadvantaged girls and women. In 2020 due to COVID-19, the classes were moved to Zoom and hosted renowned lighting designers like Paule Constable (UK), Hansorg Schmidt (UK), Micheal Curry (USA), BamanyeYekoSA, Patrick Woodroffe (UK), Erich Bertti Brazil among others. In 2021, she founded a lighting workshop themed ‘Lights Out’ touring Zimbabwe which culminated in a 3-day inaugural Lighting Festival themed “Let There be light” the Festival was attended by two international lighting designers, BamanyeYeko from Capetown SA and Micheal Foster from Dell’Arte International, California USA.
Her recent credits include Associate Lighting Designer to Johanna Town for The Famous Five Musical (Clwyd Theatre/Chichester Theatre Festival); Shadowed LD Patrick Woodroffe Elf Musical (Dominion Theatre); Associate Lighting Designer to Paule Constable for Dixon and Daughters (National Theatre), Lighting Designer for Heights and Is this Good Enough at Connections Festival (National Theatre): LX tech at The Royal Opera House; LX tech and operator at Arts Theatre for the Choir of Man musical.

Chipo Manyika Pasi is a determined, aspiring, and enthusiastic individual who can effortlessly fit into any culture and handle challenging circumstances. She worked as a Cultural Administrator at Music Crossroads Academy from 2018 to 2022. She is also a student in Stage Lighting Designer at Phenomenal Lighting and Power Solutions, a Musician, and an Actress.
Delroy Sichore is a versatile lighting technician, music enthusiast and aspiring lighting designer. He has worked with Phenomenal Lighting and Power Solutions as a lighting technician for more than 5 years.
Morset Billie is a creative enterprise consultant, writer, and spoken word artist with an honors degree in International Marketing. He has worked extensively with individuals and organisations in events coordination, brand development, and arts administration within the arts and culture sector in and outside Zimbabwe. He is also the Festival Coordinator for the Phenomenal Festival of Lights.
Phenomenal Lighting Masterclass is a female-led 3-day training program for 30 students with an interest in lights, lighting and lighting design, at the facilitation of international experts. Hosted in Bulawayo from 10-12 October 2023, the program precedes a lighting festival hosted in Matopo rural district. The festival is a platform from where trainees acquire the practical experience of designing lighting stages for 50 performance acts and interacting with colours, shapes and sounds.
