We are delighted to announce Que as one of three grantees under Das Kollektiv’s “New Voices Grant.”

Tadiwanashe Nyanga, also known as Que, is a creative musician and fashion designer who demonstrates the interaction between music and fashion. His work seeks to create a positive social impact and encourages creative collaboration.

The Upcycling Lab is a multidisciplinary event that aims to bring musicians and fashion designers together to showcase upcycling as a solution to climate change and the environmental impact of fast fashion. This innovative project aims to inspire creativity, foster collaboration from various entities within the creative community, and promote sustainable practices in the fashion industry.
This project will culminate in an event with performances from musicians and poets, a fashion show, and a screening of a documentary on the creative process and the stories of the various artists and how they use upcycling in their art and livelihood.

We are delighted to announce Kudakwashe Takundwa as one of three grantees under Das
Kollektiv’s “New Voices Grant.”

Kudakwashe Takundwa, a Bulawayo-based blogger and prominent figure in Zimbabwe’s
creative sector, is known for his extensive contributions. His blog provides insightful
commentary on arts, entertainment, and culture, showcasing his deep passion for curating Zimbabwean art stories. Beyond blogging, Takundwa plays significant roles in arts administration and management.

In addition to his blogging, Takundwa is a social media strategist and publicist. He has played a crucial role in managing the social media presence of various artistic brands, including the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards, Intwasa Arts Festival KoBulawayo, and Culxure Mag—an award-winning online art platform that he founded in 2014.

Takundwa also holds the position of Publicity Manager for the multi-award-winning dance
ensemble Inkululeko Yabatsha School of Arts (IYASA). Additionally, he works with Austrian- based Zimbabwean artist Vusa Mkhaya as both Publicity Manager and Road Manager. Culxure Mag, which Takundwa founded, is a four-time award-winning platform recognized for its excellence. It has garnered awards at the Shoko Festival Hub Unconference Awards and Roil
Bulawayo Arts Awards for Outstanding Online Media (2017-2019).

It has received two nominations at the National Arts Merit Awards in the Outstanding Online Media category. Green Cast is an innovative audio podcast series featuring interviews with thirteen artists and creators from Bulawayo who transform garbage into creative artworks. Each interview will be
conducted at the artists’ workstations to capture the essence of their creative process, allowing us to produce awe-inspiring images and mobile visual snippets for use on Culxure Mag’s various digital platforms. This project aims to highlight the artistic talent in the community, promote environmental sustainability, and inspire others to see waste as a resource for creative expression. The audio podcasts will be uploaded to various digital platforms, including Spotify, iTunes, YouTube, and SoundCloud, ensuring the artists’ stories are told and received across multiple mediums.

We are delighted to announce Chipo Kay as one of three grantees under Das Kollektiv’s “New Voices Grant.” Chipo Karumazondo is a blogger, freelance writer, and digital storyteller whose creative name is Chipo Kay.

She has obtained training in using digital tools and skills to tell stories in various
digital formats, including blogs, vlogs, and podcasts. In addition, Chipo helps other upcoming digital creatives by training them on how to use digital platforms for their storytelling and creative experience. She is also passionate about the
education and personal development of youth and young men and is a mental health advocate.

She earned the AfroBloggers Lifestyle Blogger of the Year award in 2022 for her blog
Intentionally Beautiful. She has written for various local and international publications, and her stories have appeared in online publications, including Dread Central, Adventures from the Bedrooms of African Women, and Paperbag Africa. In addition, she is a contributing writer to local publications, including Ingudukazi Magazine and Bold Dialogue magazine.
The Climate Sheros podcast is a women-focused project addressing these issues by
empowering women to become agents of change in their communities. This project aims to empower women to become leaders in climate adaptation and mitigation. By building their capacity, enhancing their access to resources, and promoting gender-responsive policies, we will contribute to a more equitable and sustainable future for all.

The project’s main goal is to create a podcast that enhances women’s capacity to address
climate change challenges, promotes gender equality, and contributes to sustainable
development. The podcast will consist of five episodes. Each episode will feature a climate
change expert or advocate sharing their knowledge, empowering women to make their communities sustainable and resilient to climate change. Podcast episodes will be distributed across various digital platforms and social media.

We are delighted to announce Nkosilesisa Kwanele Ncube as one of four grantees under the “Pop Up Open Call Grant”.

Nkosilesisa Kwanele Ncube is a film and television writer-producer. A 2022 Mandela
Washington Fellow, she is an alumnus of Rutgers University, the New York Film Academy, and Durban Film Mart. Multichoice Talent Factory and Midlands State University. She has produced fictional, documentary, and factual programming for DSTV’s Zambezi Magic, Showmax, Amazon Prime, and online distribution. She has also produced short-form content for the United Nations’ Pause Campaign and also the United Nations’ Only Together Campaign. Her strengths are ideation and conceptualisation, Production Management, and Audio-Visual Production. In her storytelling, she is passionate about the representation of black African women and works towards offering positive narratives about them. Nkosi is the Outstanding Short Film Award
recipient at the Bulawayo Arts Awards and a nominee at the Zimbabwe Annual Film and Television Awards and the Continental Ladies in Media Awards under the Outstanding Television Producer categories.
“To Black Girls” is a short literary film birthed from the epistolary novel “Drafts:100 Letters I Will
Never Send”. The literary video is an open letter to black girls. The point has and has always
been to provide women with narratives that all one has to be is be themselves – and happily so.
The goal ultimately is to create stories for millennial African black women to embrace their
identities, their bodies, their sexualities, their opinions, and their realities. In essence, “To Black
Girls” is both a manual and a love letter to young black women.

We are delighted to announce Tinashe Madamombe as one of four grantees under the “Pop
Up Open Call Grant.”
Tinashe Madamombe is a gender and communications specialist with a passion for
empowering women and girls. She is a writer, blogger, and founder of The Dorcas Project, and

used to be the owner and lead designer of Azariah Apparel. She brings expertise in digital
literacy and communications and extensive experience in women’s empowerment and rights.
Tinashe is a Global UGRAD and Irish Aid alumna with a BSc. in Women’s and Gender Studies,
an MSc. in International Public Policy and Diplomacy, and a Diploma in Project Management,
Monitoring, and Evaluation.
The Stitching Futures Project empowers teen mothers by providing comprehensive sewing,
tailoring, entrepreneurship, and digital literacy training. The participants will gain practical skills
in garment making and business management, fostering self-reliance and confidence. The
project also offers mentorship and digital marketing training, enabling them to establish small
businesses. Led by Tinashe Madamombe and designer Winnie Mwashita, the initiative includes
a unique fashion show where participants showcase clothing that reflects their personal
challenges. Beyond economic empowerment, Stitching Futures emphasises community building
and social support, creating a network of women who uplift each other. The project aims to
break the cycle of poverty and drive social change in underserved communities.

We are delighted to announce Rachael Ncube as one of four grantees under the “Pop Up
Open Call Grant.”

Racheal Ncube is a Multi award winning poet; ROILBAA2019_Outstanding Community Arts
Engagement, 2 nd runner up – Accountability Creative Activism Awards by Action Aid (Global
Platforms Zimbabwe), Loziba Poetry Slam Champion 2021. Nominated as a Global Changer by
Global Solutions Initiative in 2024.

Racheal’s project, under her initiative “Skill A Community,” will see 15 female artists between the
ages of 18 and 35 engaged in discussions, content creation, and an anthology publication on
the effects of climate change on young women. The Haven also serves as an empowerment
and solidarity platform for climate crisis survivors and everyone working on the front lines of
environmental and climate protection.

We are delighted to announce Farai Mudzingwa as one of four grantees under the “Pop Up Open Call Grant.”

Farai Mudzingwa is a Zimbabwean writer whose debut novel, Avenues by Train, published by
Cassava Republic Press is currently on the longlist for the CANEX Prize for Publishing in
Africa. His work has been published in Weaver Press anthologies, Johannesburg Review of Books,Africa Is A Country, Kwani?, Short Story Day Africa, New Frame, Chimurenga Chronic and Mail & Guardian. He has been a guest speaker at the Open Book Festival, Pa Gya!, and the Gauteng International Book Festival. Laxfield Literary Associates represents him.

The Digital Storytelling Platform encourages Zimbabwean and African writers to explore climate change through the lens of climate fiction (cli-fi). Centered around critiques of Farai
Mudzingwa’s fiction, Green Shadows in the Kiya Kiya Republic and Avenues by Train, and other African literature and content, the platform will provide guided writing prompts and storytelling resources that educate on environmental issues and promote ecological activism. By offering a creative space for writers to craft and share their work, the platform fosters a community that enhances creativity and social awareness. Through multimedia content and literary education, the project aims to spark meaningful conversations around climate change, contributing to both cultural preservation and social change. We aim to use storytelling as a powerful tool for environmental advocacy.

We are delighted to announce Tafadzwa Meki as one of two grantees under Das Kollektiv’s
“Major Grant.”

Tafadzwa Meki is a registered counselling psychologist specialising in perinatal mental health.
With a passion for addressing Afrocentric mental health issues, she founded S.A.L.T Africa, a prominent mental health organisation focused on providing Afrocentric solutions. Tafadzwa’s impactful work includes spearheading a program for adolescent girls and boys affected by post-
traumatic stress following the devastation of Cyclone Idai in Chimanimani, Zimbabwe.
Additionally, S.A.L.T Africa actively engages in prison rehabilitation through mental health
circles, aiming to address recidivism and promote behavioural change. They teach craft-making using recycled materials to empower inmates and have successfully established mental health gardens in three prisons. As a driving force for perinatal mental health inclusion, Tafadzwa has successfully implemented a pilot project offering free maternal mental health services within
health facilities and communities. This initiative provides support to women in antenatal classes, early labour wards, Kangaroo Units, Neonatal Units, and those with adverse birth outcomes.

Tafadzwa is currently working on constructing a rural maternal mental health centre.
Additionally, she runs the “Happy Baby – Happy Momma” program, which collects essential
items for birthing mothers and babies in communities and prisons. Tafadzwa’s commitment to raising awareness extends to schools, churches, and community drug and substance awareness clinics. She also hosts the popular television show “Mental Health Watch” on Heart and Soul TV, airing every Tuesday. Furthermore, Tafadzwa holds the esteemed position of President-Elect in her Rotary club, showcasing her leadership and dedication to service.
Recognised as an influential speaker, Tafadzwa has participated in prestigious events such as
the International Maternal and Newborn Health Conference, where she shared insights on
achieving better maternal outcomes through mental health inclusion. She has also been a
respected plenary speaker at the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics.
Tafadzwa Meki’s professional expertise, philanthropic endeavours, and commitment to mental health advocacy make her a remarkable figure in the field. With her unwavering dedication, she continues to impact the lives of individuals and communities profoundly.

The Making a Silent Burden Scream is designed to deliver holistic support and wellness
opportunities for nursing mothers at Mbuya Nehanda Maternity Hospital, particularly those with children in the neonatal unit. By addressing their emotional, mental, and physical well-being,
The project seeks to empower them as they navigate the challenging experience of having a
child in the neonatal unit. Additionally, the project aims to equip mothers with new skills and knowledge to educate and empower them, particularly in exploring and leveraging diverse
revenue streams.

We are delighted to announce Mudiwa Marasa as one of two grantees under Das Kollektiv’s
“Major Grant.”

Mudiwa Marasa is a contemporary visual artist whose work transcends traditional boundaries to
explore themes of femininity, identity, and the human experience. Born and raised in Harare,
Zimbabwe, Mudiwa’s cultural heritage profoundly influences her artistic expression, infusing her
pieces with a rich tapestry of colours, textures, and symbolism. She uses traditional art
methods, such as painting and sculpture, but doesn’t shy away from multi-media, such as digital
illustration, animation, photography, and videography.

The Mutumbi Exhibition, scheduled for November 14th, 2024, is a powerful artistic initiative
designed to raise awareness about sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). This
unique exhibition will blend visual paintings with augmented reality (AR) elements to narrate the
personal stories of women who have been impacted by a lack of knowledge about their SRHR.
By integrating art and technology, the exhibition aims to create an immersive experience that
highlights the challenges these women face and educates the audience on the importance of
SRHR.

The event will feature diverse artistic expressions, including live music and culinary
experiences, creating a vibrant and engaging atmosphere. In addition to the artistic elements,
educational materials about SRHR and available contraceptive options will be distributed to the
audience, further reinforcing the exhibition’s goal of promoting SRHR awareness and
empowerment.

This exhibition aspires to inspire dialogue, encourage learning, and contribute to the broader
SRHR education and advocacy movement.
