Under our Das Kollektiv project, we ran an open call for the “New Voices Grant”. Open to
Creatives (Individuals), Hubs/ Creative enterprises/organisations, and Festivals.
We are delighted to announce Takunda A Chipara as one of the Das Kollektiv New Voices
Grantees.
Takunda is an environmental Science Degree Holder who balanced securing a degree with
teaching himself photography. He purchased his first camera in October 2016, and for the next 3
years, Takunda created art and steadily developed a style of his own. In the heart of the
pandemic, Takunda pivoted into videography under the mentorship of Ngonidzashe Chinhara.
He has since been practising and creating through both mediums, working towards achieving
his goal of telling 300 African stories, Visually in 2025.
The Team:
Llyod a Director and Media Producer. Passionate about storytelling and making great content
for brands and companies. He believes in being open to change and in the beauty of
imperfection. And Michelle a talented black female photographer and artist with a passion for
capturing the beauty of the earth’s inhabitants through her lens. She hopes to be a Zimbabwean
storyteller bridging the gap between Eurocentric and African storytelling.
The Creative’s Perspective Project is a creative-centered, short-format video documentary-style
project that seeks to elevate the voices of Creatives within Zimbabwe and across the region in
the future. It is a project that aims to:
– Provide a platform for creatives to teach and learn from one another across different
creative mediums
– To bridge the gap between the more established creatives and the budding creatives,
to foster a creative environment that promotes ubuntu (togetherness)
– Facilitate the development of respect and authority for the creative community in an
environment that historically places more value on traditional professions.
– To create healthy dialogue through honest and vulnerable conversations that prioritise
inclusion and diversity
