Under our Das kollektiv project, we ran an call for the “New Voices Grant”. Open to Creatives(Individuals), Hubs/Creative enterprises/organizations, and Festivals.
We are delighted to announce Lindiwe Mugwara as one of the Das Kollektiv New Voices Grantee.
Lindiwe Mugwara is a filmmaker, photographer and emerging immersive media content creator. Her creative practice stretches across non-fiction, narrative to experimental. Lindiwe is a part of the Matamba Film Labs for women cohort, which she joined in 20121. Matamba’s core focus is creating content through new media technologies, traing, and equipping women creatives. It was there that she gained an interest in new media technologies. Lindiwe was recently selected to be part of the African XR Realities Lab in Cape Town, run by Electric South. This non-government organization incubates and mentors African artists to explore new worlds through immersive, interactive, and other digital mediums.
The projects explores the intricacies of neo-divergent minds using virtual reality. The VR experience will plunge the user into the mind of the person going through a psychotic episode. VR will heighten and stimulate the senses as it has the stimulation effect as if you experiencing it. The motivation behind this project is to shed light and help remove the complexity of the mind undergoing an episode and contribute to the solutions the mental health practitioners in Africa bring to the local population.
